Travelers Championship Round 1 Live Blog: Updates from TPC River Highlands


The Travelers Championship begins Thursday at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn.

The field includes Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson, Francesco Molinari and Jordan Spieth.

A total purse of $7.2 million will be up for grabs at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn., starting Thursday. The par-70 course will be playing at 6,841 yards.

Watson seeks his fourth Travelers Championship while Mickelson, the lone Travelers Championship winner, plays for the first time in 16 years.

TEE TIMES: Travelers Championship tee time for Rounds 1 and 2

Marc Leishman, Mickelson and Spieth are among the featured afternoon pairings on Thursday with a 1 p.m. tee time from No. 1. Tony Finau, Koepka, Watson and Tony Finau are among the featured afternoon groupings Friday, going out at 1 p.m. from No. 1 Friday.

Colt Knost withdrew from the event the PGA announced early Thursday and was replaced in the field by Chad Collins.

Updates

3:57 p.m.: Paul Casey nearly holed out on the 11th hole when his first stroke landed two feet from the hole. His ball found the cup with his second stroke for a birdie on the par-3 11th. Casey is T-5 at 4 under through 11 holes.

3:49 p.m.: Kyoung-Hoon Lee birdied the 13th hole to sit T-3 with Keegan Bradley at 5 under, one stroke behind leaders Ryan Armour and Bronson Burgoon.

3:15 p.m.: Jordan Spieth birdied the eighth hole with a putt from 43 feet. Spieth sits T-47 at 1 under through eight holes.

3 p.m.: Keegan Bradley finished the front nine 5 under with six birdies and one bogey. He is in solo third, one stroke behind leaders Ryan Armour and Bronson Burgoon.

2:15 p.m.: Kyoung-Hoon Lee finished the front nine with four birdies to T-3 at 4 under. Lee is tied with six other golfers two strokes behind leaders Ryan Armour and Bronson Burgoon.

1:35 p.m.: Bronson Burgoon birdied his final hole to tie Ryan Armour for the lead at 6 under. Burgoon, who shot a 64 with six birdies, and Armour two strokes ahead of a seven-way tie for third place.

1:20 p.m.: Ryan Armour birdied the 18th hole to finish the first round 6-under 64 with the lead. Armour, who had seven birdies and one bogey Thursday, is one-stroke ahead of Bronson Burgoon and Nick Watney at 5 under. Burgoon and Watney each have two holes left to play.

12:50 p.m.: Nick Watney recorded a birdie on No. 15 and is tied for the lead with Ryan Armour, Sangmoon Bae and Sangmoon Bae at 5 under.

12:30 p.m.: Patrick Cantlay double bogeyed the eighth hole and fell to T-9 at 4 under. He finished his first round 4-under 66.

12:15 p.m.: Brooks Koepka finished the first round 1-over 71 with four birdies and three bogeys. He is T-73 with 16 other golfers including Tony Finau.

11:50 a.m.: Ryan Armour briefly took the sole lead at 6 under after a birdie on 13, but Patrick Cantlay tied him again in first with a birdie on the seventh hole. Armour and Cantlay sit two strokes ahead of five-way tie for second.

11:15 a.m.: Ryan Armour birdied the 11th and 12th holes to tie Patrick Cantlay for the lead at 5 under. Armour, through 12 holes, had three birdies on the front nine.

10:30 a.m.: Patrick Cantlay birdied No. 2 and took the sole lead at 5 under. He is one stroke ahead of Peter Malnati, Brandt Snedeker and Bronson Burgoon at 4 under.

10 a.m.: Patrick Cantlay finished his first nine holes 4 under to tie Peter Malnati for the lead. Nine golfers, including Brandt Snedeker and C.T. Pan are T-2, one stroke behind the leaders.

8:45 a.m.: Peter Malnati takes an early lead at 4 under through his first nine. Malnati recorded for birdies so far Thursday as he moves toward the first hole.

8:20 a.m.: Justin Thomas is 1 under on the round after a birdie on the 11th hole.
